Colored Pencil Techniques Jami July 24, Saturday, 1 – 4pm $35 Students will learn a variety of techniques, use an assortment of tools and surfaces in order to see the huge range of looks one can achieve with colored pencils. We will learn to blend, build, burnish, etc. No skills are required and the class is suitable for ages 12 and up. This class is intended to give you the information and techniques to apply to your own style of art. Small supply list. PLEIN AIR Painting with OPEN Acrylics Corrine Loomis Dietz July 30, Friday, 10am – 4pm $95 Paint the alley ways of Salem and learn practical tips for “Plein Air” painting in this intensive, 5 hour workshop. Discover the materials and methods required to travel and paint on location. OPEN Acrylics stay wet just like oils, providing time to blend, work wet into wet and develop subtle glazes. Merging OPEN with traditional acrylics allows the artist to speed the drying time and develop textures. Explore composition as you combine natural and manmade wonders of our unique environment. Corrine will explain color characteristics, revealing the pigments that are ideal for glazing transparent layers and those which offer solid form and opacity. Beginning and Intermediate Oil Painting Wendy Steinberg August 3 – September 21, Tuesdays, 8 weeks $159 Join Wendy in this friendly, relaxed atmosphere and explore techniques, tools and mediums to fit your style. Learn how to create paintings with rich color and dynamic compositions. In this ongoing class, Wendy will work with you individually on what you want to paint, at your own level and pace. Beginning Portrait Drawing Jami August 14, Saturday, 10:30 – 3:30 $50 This beginning basic portrait class will lay some simple groundwork for the student to begin the process of drawing the human face. Working from photographs, we will learn how to use the different value shades of pencils, how to create effects with the eraser, why the type of paper used is so important, as well as some very basic anatomy. They may then take this information further with more classes or expand upon them at home on their own. Small supply list. Mixed Media Painting & Collage Sharon Geraci August 20 & 21, Friday and Saturday, 10am – 4:30pm $180 (includes some materials) In this two day class we will combine more traditional painting techniques with collage to produce pieces with texture and depth. Beginning with an underpainting on your surface of choice, see your work develop richness, depth and contrast with the addition of papers, acrylics, inks and other materials. This is also an excellent opportunity to incorporate realistic elements and imagery and further develop unfinished watercolor or acrylic paintings. Small supply list. Oil Pastels Ann Altman August 28, Saturday, 1:30 - 3:30 pm $45.00 Enjoy the rich possibilities offered by oil pastels. From brilliant color to subtle blendings, these simple sticks provide a satisfying art experience. Ann will guide you through hands-on exercises to help you master this sometimes challenging medium. Advanced Collage Techniques Sharon Geraci September 11, Saturday, 10am - 4:30 pm $80 (includes some materials) Spend a day exploring more layering and methods of collaging assorted dimensional materials. Try working on wood or canvas as supports, with alternative methods of attaching objects and materials. Stamping, embossing, and layering with gels and mediums are included in the fun. FREE Literature and samples to all that preregister. Encaustic Painting: Painting with Hot Wax Deanna White September 25, Saturday, 11am – 3pm $75 Learn about the history of Encaustics. You will explore “fusing” techniques with beeswax, using different heating tools such as a heat gun, torch and flat iron. I will cover texture, inlay and collage techniques. You will work on your own projects at your own pace and will have one finished painting, maybe two, depending on how you work. If you bring photos, make sure they are toner-based photo copies (not ink jet). I will have a large assortment of papers and collage items, and you can bring some of your own too like buttons, leaves, etc. Come try Encaustics, we’ll have some fun! Supplies included. In person: You are welcome to register at Art Department during business hours. Students must pre-register and pay the full amount to reserve a space in the desired class or workshop. Minimum enrollment must be met to make a class a “go”. So to avoid disappointment, please register early! Class will be cancelled three business days prior to the first day of the first class IF the student minimum is not met. REFUND POLICY: If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circustances, a full refund will be given. Withdrawals made more than five days prior to the first class session, will be issued a full refund minus a $10 registration processing fee. Withdrawals made five days or less, prior to the first class session, will NOT be refunded or credited.
