In this one-day workshop, we’ll spend a couple of hours painting a variety of papers using unconventional tools, then adding marks, lines, drips, and splatters to use for creating Curious Untamed Blooms on the substrate of our choice. After a break, we’ll spend the rest of the day digging through our colorful painted papers and personal collage papers to rip, cut, tear, and glue, going in and adding marks (and maybe a word or two).

Our finished collages will take on their own personalities and reflect our curiosity, playfulness, and a sense of experimentation, all the while pushing the limits of color, design, and composition.

Supply List
Note: All regular-priced supplies are available at 20% off from Art Department for this class.

  • Substrate of your choice for your flower collages. You could choose to use watercolor paper cut or torn to a favorite size, i.e., 6x6, 5x7, 8x8, etc. I would keep the size small and intimate, so you are able to complete several. Working in a series and working on the same size substrate reads nicely when several are completed. You could also choose to work on cradled wood panels in a similar size as listed above. Or you may choose to rip up a bunch of wonky, old, vintage books and use book covers as your substrate.
  • A couple inexpensive brushes (i.e.,1 inch, and 2 inches)
  • Acrylic paints in your favorite colors (can be tube paint or fluids)
  • Palette paper or paper plates
