Lexicon noun “The vocabulary of a person, language, or branch of knowledge.”
In this case, our Lexicon is a variety of collage techniques created in the form of a deck of collages that can be used for display or reference.
Working loosely and intuitively, we will use scraps of paper, worn ephemera, hand painted papers that we create, and materials scavenged from discarded books. Over two days we will create a deck of collages on 4x6-inch mat board pieces. Creating these collages is a wild cacophony of cutting, tearing, drawing, gluing, painting, writing, scraping, sanding, layering, and revealing.

- Golden Semi-Gloss Soft Gel (8 ounces) NOTE: If you already have some sort of gel medium, i.e., matte or gloss, or Liquitex, on hand, please use what you have, but make sure it is gel and not in liquid form.
- Good paper cutting scissors
- Acrylic paint: a red, blue, yellow, white, and black and any of your favorite colors (cheaper paints okay; can be fluid or tube paint) Amsterdam paint at the Art Department is a great paint for this project.

Palette paper 9x12 inches
- Squeegee or old credit card for spreading paint
- ¾" or 1” brush (not an expensive one)
- Water container
- A magazine or catalog to use as “glue” paper
- Paper towels or a rag
- A stack of your personal collage papers (anything you have on hand or papers you love)
- Roll of wax paper
Optional (Dayna will bring some to share):
- Cutting mat
- X-acto knives
- Brayer (hard or soft)
- Mark-making pencils, markers, etc., i.e., Stabilo Woodies, china markers, Marabu crayons.
- Thin-tipped black and/or white POSCA pens
- If you have a 5 lb bag of rice, please bring it
- Thin-tipped black and white POSCA pens to use
- Drawing, deli, draft, and parchment paper
- A variety of mark-making pencils and markers (Stabilo Woodies, china markers, Marabu crayons, etc.)
- Bingo daubers
- Sandpaper
- Brayers
- X-acto knifes with fresh blades
- Hole punches
- Packet of specialty collage papers
- Small vintage photograph
- Bits of vintage quilts
- Packing tape
- Art tissue paper
