Explore the exciting interplay of collage, paint, and shape in this playful mixed media workshop!
We’ll begin by creating a richly layered collage surface using papers, patterns, and textures. Then we’ll take the process in an unexpected direction, painting around selected shapes to create “windows” that reveal the collage underneath. These open spaces become focal points, allowing bits of pattern, color, and imagery to peek through and interact with the painted surface.
You’ll discover how the relationship between what is covered and what is revealed can transform a simple collage into a dynamic work of art. We’ll play with shape, color, contrast, layering, and composition while learning techniques you can continue using in your own mixed media practice.
No previous experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and willingness to experiment. Come prepared to get lost in the process and see what emerges!
