Transparent watercolors allow for a beautiful layering of paints that adds vibrancy and dimension. In this class we will work on layering techniques that allow the colors to shine. We’ll do lots of wet-in-wet, loose strokes, and do our own color mixing. Whether you’re a beginner, or more experienced, let’s paint together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere as Claire guides you step-by-step through this Haystack Rock interpretation. Bring your favorite supplies, with a list below of what you’ll need to bring to class.

Palette with large mixing space
2 large containers for water
White artist's tape (to tape paper not on a block)
Painting Board (to tape paper on)

Please bring to class the best quality paint you can afford, either artist or student grade. Windsor Newton and Daniel Smith have great introductory pans or tube sets, or you can buy individual tubes from any reputable brand.
Paper:
For the techniques in this class to work, you absolutely need 100% cotton paper, cold press, 300 gsm, 140 lb. I used a 10x15" sheet cut down from 1 big sheet . Cotton blocks or pads about that size are also fine. To practice the techniques, and for color mixing, please also bring a few extra sheets, though pulp paper is okay for that.
One large round brush size range 14-20.
One smaller round brush size range 8-10
A detail brush size range 2-4
One inch or larger flat brush
Colors needed: Cobalt Blue; Cerulean Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Permanent Rose; Payne’s Grey
